Melbourne Airport

aerialnthsth.jpgMelbourne Airport is located about 25 kms from the City Centre, with a four star Hilton Hotel.

A curfew free 24 hour international airport, and Australia's second biggest airfreight hub, it is consistently voted in the top five airports in the world.

The airport has direct international air links to 125 destinations in 35 countries.

Renowned for its world class facilities, Melbourne Airport's international and domestic terminals are conveniently located under one roof, with the Domestic Express Terminal, home to Virgin Blue, just a short walk away.

In 2000-01, Melbourne Airport catered for more than 3.3 million international and 13.5 million domestic travellers.

In recognition of its contribution to the Victorian tourism industry, Melbourne Airport has won two Australian Tourism Awards for General Tourism services - the only Australian airport to have won such an award.

Melbourne Airport currently handles 27% of Australia's airfreight exports and 27% of imports.

cargo.jpgMelbourne Airport is a freight gateway into Australia, as the home to DHL and Lufthansa, two of the world's largest freight companies.

The Lufthansa 'round the world' freighter service chose Melbourne for its only Australian stopover. In 2000, Melbourne Airport welcomed DHL, one of the world's largest freight companies. Their Melbourne Gateway building was financed by Melbourne Airport and completed in December 2000.

Melbourne Airport was in the best position to provide Lufthansa and DHL the infrastructure and flexibility they required. Its curfew free 24 hour operations hold significant appeal for freight operators, giving a clear, competitive edge in attracting export business. The Victorian Government is also committed to ensuring this remains the case.

Around the airport there are 350 hectares of land, featuring a Business Park and an Office Park in various stages of development.
